Nestled along the serene banks of the Tagus (Tejo) River in the Tejo wine region, this estate not only produces exceptional wines but also boasts diverse agricultural, forested, and natural landscapes, covering a vast expanse of 6400 acres. With 400 acres dedicated to vineyards, 1200 acres for agricultural crops, and an impressive 4700 acres of forest, the estate showcases a harmonious blend of nature's bounty.
Within its agricultural domain, Quinta da Alorna cultivates a variety of crops for the agri-food industry, including corn, potatoes, peanuts, peas, and sweet potatoes. The extensive forested areas house cork oak forests, pine groves, and eucalyptus trees, contributing to sustainable practices and carbon dioxide mitigation. Additionally, the estate proudly hosts six solar power plants, underscoring its commitment to green energy.
The influence of the Tagus (Tejo) River on the region's terroirs is undeniable, creating the ideal conditions for grape cultivation. A seasoned winemaker with a deep-rooted passion for the craft. Born in the United States and raised in Portugal, she immersed herself in the world of wine from a young age. Growing up amidst the family vineyard, Martta's early experiences cultivating grapes fostered a lifelong connection to the land and its produce.
Influenced by her father's entrepreneurial spirit, Martta pursued a formal winemaking education, completing an Enology course with distinction. Her academic achievements were complemented by hands-on experience through internships, where she garnered multiple awards for her talent.
In a testament to her abilities, Martta was appointed Enology Department Head at Quinta da Alorna shortly after graduation. Remarkably, she managed the demands of her first harvest while caring for a newborn, a feat that continues to inspire her.
Martta's dedication and expertise have been recognized with numerous accolades, and her wines have garnered critical acclaim internationally. Beyond the awards, her greatest satisfaction comes from creating wines that bring joy to consumers worldwide.
