Vinilourenço
Vinilourenço, a remarkable family winery, embodies a tale of passion, resilience, entrepreneurial prowess, and an unwavering love for the land. Their wines, which now grace tables worldwide, serve as a testament to their journey.
Two generations have shaped this extraordinary narrative. In the 1980s, Horácio Augusto Lourenço planted the first vineyards, laying the foundation for his dreams. His son, Jorge Miguel Graça Lourenço, took up the mantle, spearheading viticulture, crafting exceptional wines, and shaping the company we recognize today.
Nestled in the heart of the Douro Superior, Vinilourenço calls the quaint village of Poço do Canto, within the Meda municipality, home. Over the years, the Lourenço Family has acquired multiple properties across the Douro Superior, strategically chosen based on an imaginary triangle envisioned by Horácio Lourenço upon his return from Angola.
In the early 2000s, Jorge Lourenço, at the tender age of 18, assumed the monumental task of modernizing the existing 25 hectares of vineyards. His responsibilities spanned from selecting new grape varieties for expansion to restructuring the company for grape vinification and wine distribution. The past decade has witnessed an unstoppable surge in the company's growth, fueled by the exceptional quality and originality of their wines. Notably, the revival of Douro's ancient grape varieties has become the hallmark of Vinilourenço, garnering well-deserved recognition.
Today, Vinilourenço proudly tends to 45 hectares of vineyards, strategically dispersed across the Meda and Vila Nova de Foz Côa counties. This dispersal encompasses the Poço do Canto, Vale da Teja, and Focinho regions, each offering diverse climates, altitudes ranging from 160 to 700 meters, and a rich tapestry of soils—from shale in the lowlands to shale and granite in the elevated terrains. This natural diversity facilitates the creation of a wide spectrum of wines, with harvesting extending for over a month and a half. The unique expression of grape varieties in distinct locations results in an astonishing versatility of wine styles.
Among their diverse vineyards, notable plots include Vale do Couceiro in Poço Canto, Vale de Mouro in Poçinho, Entre Águas in Sebadelhe, Fraga da Gahofa in Poço Canto, and Quinta do Grilo in Mêda. These plots encompass a rich tapestry of grape varieties, from Touriga Nacional and Tinta Barroca to Viosinho and Gouveia, contributing to the rich tapestry of Vinilourenço's offerings.
Vinilourenço's story is a testament to the enduring spirit of a family deeply connected to their land, crafting wines that reflect the soul of the Douro Superior.
